Right on the heels of the debut of the full-length Rogue One trailer, Disney has released an international preview for the Star Wars spinoff that offers a new clue about Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso. In the footage, it is revealed that one reason Jyn is recruited for the mission to steal the plans for the Death Star is that her father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), was the one who warned the Rebellion about it. “We have intercepted a coded Imperial transmission,” Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) tells Jyn. “It indicates that a major weapons test is imminent.”
“The message was sent by your father,” Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) adds.
During an April interview with the Evening Standard, Mikkelsen revealed that the film contains flashbacks to Jyn’s childhood. “I spend a lot of time with [Jones] and she’s a wonderful actress,” he said. “I play her dad at the time of Felicity and I play her dad when she’s younger, so we jump back and forth in time.”
However, from the teaser trailer, we also know that Jyn has been on her own since she was 15 years old, meaning that something big must have happened to separate her from her father for so long. Is it Dec. 16 yet?
