Two San Diego police officers were shot during a traffic stop late Thursday night, killing one and sending the other to surgery.
NBC reports that one suspect is in custody but authorities are continuing a search for other possible suspects. According to NBC7 San Diego, both officers were members of SDPD’s Elite Gang Unit, and the one who was killed had a wife and children.
In a Friday morning press conference, San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said she was hopeful about the condition of the injured officer. Later in the morning, the police department tweeted that the officer has come out of surgery and is expected to survive.
