Chelsea Clinton addresses delegates during the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention at Wells Fargo Center on July 28, 2016 in Philadelphia, PA.Saul Loeb—AFP/Getty Images by [Will Drabold](https://time.com/author/will-drabold/) ## Will Drabold Updated: Jan 24, 2024 12:34 PM UTCPublished: Jul 29, 2016 2:40 AM UTC Chelsea Clinton introduced Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention, telling personal stories about her mother Hillary Clinton, describing her mom as a caring grandmother with a deep love of family who understands what it means “to be smiled on by fate.” “I’m here as a proud American, a proud Democrat, a proud mother and tonight, in particular, a very, very proud daughter,” Chelsea said. “My earliest memory is my mom picking me up, after I’d fallen down, giving me a big hug and reading me _Goodnight Moon_.” No matter what happened in her life, Chelsea said her mother was always there for her. “Whenever my mom was away for work … she left notes for me to open for each day she was gone,” Chelsea said. “I treasured each and every one of those notes.
