Watch Gabby Giffords Tell DNC ‘Strong Women Get Things Done’

2 minute read

Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday evening, offering a powerful endorsement of Hillary Clinton by telling the crowd, “Strong women get things done.”

Giffords, who was shot in the head in 2011 in her home state of Arizona, took the stage to vouch for the Democratic nominee and call for gun safety legislation. When Giffords was shot, six others did not survive.

Giffords led the crowd in a three-round call and response to “Are you ready?” riffing on Clinton’s “Ready” slogan (and the name of her PAC).

“Hillary is tough. Hillary is courageous. She will fight to make our families safer. In the White House, she will stand up to the gun lobby. That’s why I’m voting for Hillary,” Giffords told the crowd.

“I want to say these two words: ‘Madam President.'”

She was introduced on stage by her husband, retired astronaut and navy captain Mark Kelly.

“Hillary is ready to take on one of our country’s greatest moral failures here at home, and that is the gun violence that is tearing so many of our communities apart,” Kelly said, as he introduced her.
