Ivanka Trump Calls Herself a ‘Daughter, Not a Clone’

2 minute read

While her father is on the campaign trail, Ivanka Trump has the job of helping holding down Donald Trump’s business empire along with her two brothers, Donald Jr. and Eric. She’s even tasked with introducing him at the Republican National Convention, moments before he will likely accept the party’s nomination.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Trump discusses her work-life balance, motherhood, and giving “feedback, solicited or unsolicited” to her father, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

While the remarks he has made about women and minorities have caused much controversy, Ivanka stressed to People that she has her own mind. “I’m a daughter, not a clone. So of course daughters often disagree with things their fathers say,” she says. “I share my viewpoints with him privately, not publicly. I’m not the candidate.”

Ivanka is one of her father’s most trusted advisors, and the “Ivanka Seal of Approval” carries great significance in his campaign. Some onlookers noted Ivanka would be a good fit for the Vice President role and others alleged that she swayed her father to fire controversial campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. She declined to comment on either to People.

Ivanka also has her own empire to manage in addition to her father’s. Other than her fashion brands, she has her own lifestyle website, IvankaTrump.com, which provides advice and tips for working women. “There just weren’t voices in the mainstream space that were really celebrating the multidimensionality of today’s women,” she said. “I really wanted to create a lot of positivity and to profile incredible women who are doing it their own way.”

In an interview with Business Insider, Ivanka credits her father for being “bold” and taking risks at work. She says, “He’s taught me a tremendous amount about how to be an inspiring leader and how to try to do that as well.”

Ivanka, like her father, has been known for her negotiation tactics. In an article that she wrote for Motto, she advises, “Know what you want to achieve prior to starting to negotiate. It’s the golden rule but the one most people fail to heed.”
