Donald Trump hasn’t been polling well among African-American voters, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some black delegates at the Republican National Convention. Or at least one, as Stephen Colbert joked on Late Show, with comedian Keegan-Michael Key appearing as “the one African-American delegate” in Cleveland.
Key appeared in a typical Trump tee-shirt and “Make America Great Again” cap, channeling pure excitement to be on the scene. “Chris Christie burned a witch earlier, Ben Carson was juggling brains, I didn’t know it was gonna be this entertaining!” he said. “They gave me a hat, they gave me a shirt, they’re always putting me on camera for some reason, I’ve never been so popular in my life.”
“People keep coming up to me and saying, ‘Thank God you’re here,'” he added, “and they keep on saying, ‘You’re one of the good ones, you’re articulate, you’re bright!'”
Asked whether it was it fiscal conservatism or social conservatism that brought him to the Quicken Loans Arena, he said, “I just came by here looking for Pokémon.”
