The request from Cleveland Police Union President Steve Loomis follows the [fatal shooting in Baton Rouge](http://time.com/4409654/baton-rouge-police-shooting/?xid=homepage), La., which left at least three police officers dead and three others wounded. Tens of thousands of [protesters](http://time.com/4393719/republican-national-convention-protests/?iid=sr-link4) are expected to demonstrate outside the GOP convention, which will last from July 18-21.
