Watch Jeff Goldblum ‘Debunk’ a Popular Theory About His Independence Day Character

With the June 24 release of Independence Day: Resurgence swiftly approaching, Jeff Goldblum is finally addressing a rumor that has been circulating since the original movie hit theaters in 1996. The idea in question, of course, is that he and Earth Space Defense director David Levinson are the same person.

To prove they are two separate people, the 63-year-old actor filmed a video in which he “debunks” the widespread conspiracy theory. “I’ve played a couple of scientists and I’ve pretended to be smart,” Goldblum says. “But you’re a real smarty pants and thank you — heartfelt thank you to the legions of people who admire you and hold you in the greatest esteem.”
