The Passion of the Christ Writer Hints at Sequel

1 minute read

Mel Gibson may soon be returning to his Passion. The actor and director, along with writer Randall Wallace, are working on a sequel to The Passion of the Christ, the Braveheart screenwriter told The Hollywood Reporter.

Wallace said the follow-up would track the resurrection of Jesus. “I always wanted to tell this story,” he said. “The Passion is the beginning and there’s a lot more story to tell.”

With Jim Caviezel as Jesus, The Passion divided critics but conquered the box office to the tune of more than $611 million worldwide on just a $30 million budget.

Wallace and Gibson collaborated on the Oscar-winning Braveheart: Gibson starred and directed, while Wallace penned the script. The duo also worked on the upcoming World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge, with Gibson directing and Wallace co-writing.

Reps for Gibson would not comment on his involvement in a Passion sequel.
