One day after Elizabeth Banks [stepped aside](http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/03/pitch-perfect-3-elizabeth-banks-exits-director) as director of Universal’s _Pitch Perfect 3_, the filmmaker and actress has revealed what went into the decision.

“The new schedule butts up against my parental responsibilities in a way I’m not really comfortable with,” Banks was quoted as saying at Saturday’s Produced By Conference in Los Angeles, referring to the movie’s [recently changed release date](http://www.ew.com/article/2016/05/31/pitch-perfect-3-christmas-2017) from July 2017 to December 2017.

Speaking to a room full of producers alongside her husband and co-producer Max Handelman, Banks added, “We feel obligated to put out the absolute best movie… it’s really hard to figure out what the story is … we’ve been developing our asses off.”

Banks has [other projects keeping her busy](http://www.ew.com/article/2015/09/15/charlies-angels-reboot-elizabeth-banks), though — she is attached to direct Universal’s adaptation of _Red Queen_, based on Victoria Aveyard’s YA fantasy tale, as well as a new _Charlie’s Angels_ movie for Sony, which she would co-produce with her husband.

Banks is still expected to appear in front of the camera for _Pitch Perfect 3_, reprising her role as color commentator Gail, alongside John Michael Higgins. The _Hunger Games_ star will also be seen in the March 24, 2017 release of Lionsgate’s _Power Rangers_, where [she is playing villain Rita Repulsa](http://www.ew.com/article/2016/04/19/power-rangers-elizabeth-banks-rita-repulsa).

Banks made her feature directorial debut with _Pitch Perfect 2_, which[opened to nearly $70 million](http://www.ew.com/article/2015/05/17/box-office-report-pitch-perfect-2-earns-biggest-movie-musical-opening-ever) in May 2015, going on to earn $287.5 million worldwide.
