Watch Miley Cyrus’ Gender-Bending Performances of ‘I’m Your Man’ And ‘I’m a Woman’ On ‘Maya & Marty’

1 minute read

Although the Tuesday debut of Maya Rudolph and Martin Short’s new variety show Maya & Marty featured industry icons like Steve Martin and Tom Hanks, one of the night’s biggest hits was a gender-bending performance from music’s enfant terrible, Miley Cyrus.

The 23-year-old singer performed a sultry two-song set — Leonard Cohen’s 1988 hit, “I’m Your Man” and Patsy Lee’s female power ballad, “I’m a Woman” — with an underlying tongue-in-cheek message: Miss Miley can definitely have it both ways. The singer has been outspoken about her gender fluidity as well as a staunch supporter of LGBTQ rights, most notably with the launch of her non-profit, Happy Hippie Foundation, which empowers queer youth.

During the Cohen track, Cyrus wore a bedazzled tuxedo and top hat, a la Marlene Dietrich, but changed her tune both literally and sartorially when she ripped off her tuxedo pants and tossed her top hat to perform Lee’s “I’m a Woman” in a high-cut leotard and little else.

Rudolph later joined Cyrus for rest of the “I’m a Woman” performance; you can watch the full clip below.
