2016, it seems, is the year when political catastrophe makes for good (or at least commercially viable) cinema. There was 13 Hours, the controversial “Benghazi movie” starring John Krasinski earlier this year. Now, in September, audiences will get Deepwater Horizon, a dramatic look at the 2010 BP oil-rig explosion that filled the Gulf of Mexico with millions of gallons of crude.
The full-length trailer, live now, shows stars Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich and Kate Hudson. The film will tell the story of the rig’s crew fighting to survive after the violent blast that ultimately resulted in the largest accidental marine oil spill in history.
Watch up top.
