Bernie Sanders said in a new interview that voters, and superdelegates to the Democratic convention, should take a “hard look” at a recent and highly critical State Department report on Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while Secretary of State.
The Vermont senator, who has refrained from attacking his opponent on the email scandal on the campaign trail, mentioned the Thursday report by the State Department’s inspector general during a Sunday appearance on CBS’ Face the Nation. The inspector general concluded that Clinton and her senior aides ignored repeated warnings that her private email system was vulnerable to hackers when she was Secretary of State.
“It was not a good report for Secretary Clinton,” Sanders said. “That is something that the American people, Democrats and delegates are going to have to take a hard look at.”
Earlier in the campaign, Sanders said he was “sick and tired of hearing about [her] damn emails.” He said Sunday that the superdelegates and “everybody in America” will be keeping the new report in mind.
“But for me right now, I continue to focus on how we can rebuild a disappearing middle class, deal with poverty, guarantee health care to all of our people as a right,” he added.
