The Chewbacca mask that went viral after it brought so much joy to a Texas mom now costs more than twice its retail price on eBay after selling out at major department stores.
The electronic Wookie mask that growls when the mouthpiece opens will cost customers between $50 and about $200 on eBay. It has flown off shelves since Candace Payne bought hers from Kohl’s and posted a video of her gleefully wearing it on Facebook last week. The video had more than 137 million views as of Monday.
The mask is currently out of stock in Walmart and Toys ‘R’ Us, where it had been selling for about $30.
“In all honestly, I think the world as a whole is in need of a good laugh,” Payne said Monday when she appeared on Good Morning America to discuss life as a viral sensation. “I think we’re in need of somebody to lift our spirits, to not take ourselves so seriously, and to maybe break some cynicism worldwide.”
