Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump addressed a conference of Latino evangelical leaders via video message this past weekend to court their potential support. The Latin Leaders Fest is the annual national conference of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, an organization of more than 40,000 Latino evangelical churches. Some 1,200 people attended the event in Anaheim, which included Christian music performances and breakout sessions on topics like business, education, ministry and Israel.

NHCLC president Samuel Rodriguez, Jr., has been critical of Trump’s plan to deport the country’s 11 million undocumented immigrants and build a southern border wall, and he has been [calling on Trump to apologize](http://time.com/4342885/donald-trump-immigration-hispanic-evangelicals/) for his “hurtful, erroneous, and dangerous statements” on the Latino immigrant community. Trump—[who shifted his tone on immigration in a private meeting with an NHCLC representative earlier this month—](http://time.com/4342885/donald-trump-immigration-hispanic-evangelicals/)did not apologize in his video message.

Clinton directly addressed fears of undocumented immigrant deportation under a Trump presidency. “We have a candidate who wants to tear families apart, and forcibly deport 11 million undocumented immigrants, who calls Mexican rapists, who talks about banning Muslims from entering the country,” she said. “That is not who we are as a people. You can always count on me to fight for you.”

Clinton also talked about lessons of faith she has learned, including inspiration she draws from one of the [Apostle Paul’s New Testament letters](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+6%3A9&version=KJV): “‘Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you shall reap a harvest of blessings,'” she said, quoting [Galatians 6:9](https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/Galatians%206%3A9).

Trump gave his message from his private plane. He did not address his personal faith or his deportation policy, but said he is “going to take care of minority unemployment…once and for all.” He said people that are poor are going to “pay nothing” in taxes, but when they will “start paying taxes after you are making a lot of money, and hopefully that is going to be soon.” On immigration, he said people will “come in legally,” but he is “going to stop the drugs.”

## Transcript

It's so great to be with the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference. We're gonna do a lot of things if I get elected president. We're gonna bring back jobs and that, you understand. The world is taking our jobs and we've got to stop that. We're gonna take care of minority unemployment. It's a huge problem, it's really unfair to minorities, And we are going to solve that problem, and it's going to be solved once and for all. We're going to create good schools, and I mean in some cases hopefully great schools. And really safe communities, because our communities in many cases are not safe which is very, very unfair to hispanics and frankly, everybody else.

We're gonna do massive tax cuts, especially for the middle class, and people that are poor are going to pay nothing. They're struggling, it's tough, and under my plan, which is filed under donaldjtrump. com, you're going to see it's nothing, absolutely nothing. You're going to get it. You're going to go out. We're gonna bring back jobs You're gonna start paying taxes afer you're making a lot of money, and hopefully that's gonna be soon. We're going to make great, great trade deals, so important. The world is laughing at us right now, we're losing our jobs, we're losing so much, whether it's China or whether it's Japan, or whether it's so many other countries Our trade deals are horrendous and that's where we're losing our jobs.

That's going to end. We're going to stop drugs from pouring into our country. We're going to strengthen our borders. People are going to come into our country but they're going to come into a process. They'll come in legally but we're going to stop the drugs. And we are going to curb our debt. Our debt is a disaster. We are, right now, 19 trillion dollars, it's gotta stop. by the way, the 19 trillion dollars is going up to 21 trillion dollars very very soon. So we have to curb our debt and we will do that. I just want to thank everybody. We're gonna be working very hard. It's not gonna be easy, but I'm going to win.

And we're going to take care of everybody. Our country is gonna be unified for the first time in a long time. And again, I just want to thank the whole group and all of the committees that asked me to do this. National Hispanic Christian. Three great words. We're gonna take care of you, we're gonna work with you, you're gonna be very happy, you're gonna like President Trump.
