Being a Vanderbilt gave Anderson Cooper some extraordinary childhood experiences, such as heading to famed New York City nightclub, Studio 54, with Michael Jackson when Cooper was 11 years old.
The journalist told Seth Meyers the story of how he rode in a car with his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Jackson to the venue. Cooper said he didn’t really know who Jackson was, but was impressed when the future King of Pop started dancing.
“I turned to the person next to me and said, ‘He’s really good at that; he should pursue it,'” Cooper said Wednesday night. For context, Cooper was born 9 years after Jackson, making Jackson’s age roughly 20 during this interaction.
