A movie about the larger-than-life pro wrestler André “The Giant” Roussimoff is being developed by Lion Forge Comics and producers Scott Steindorff and Dylan Russell, the filmmakers announced Monday. Based on the authorized graphic novel biography _Andre the Giant: Closer to Heaven_, which was written by Brandon Easton and illustrated by Denis Medri, the film will chronicle Roussimoff’s journey from French farm boy to 7-foot-4 international wrestling star, while also exploring the physical and emotional challenges he faced. Roussimoff is perhaps best known for feuding with Hulk Hogan inside the ring, and for playing the gentle giant Fezzik in _The Princess Bride_outside it. He died of heart failure at 46 in 1993. “André the Giant rode the wave of the rise of wrestling in America, while suffering from the painful health condition of gigantism,” Steindorff said in the announcement. “There’s an Elephant Man story here.” Roussimoff’s daughter, Robin Christensen-Roussimoff, will consult on the film, and David Steward II and Carl Reed will produce alongside Steindorff and Russell.
