On The Late Show Monday night, Stephen Colbert spoofed Johnny Depp’s somber demeanor in a public apology to Australians for smuggling pet dogs into the country.
After the Pirates of the Caribbean actor and wife Amber Heard made the video for the government’s department of agriculture as part of a plea deal, the country’s deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce told Channel 7 that the actor could have apologized with more “gusto,” adding that “he looked like he was auditioning for The Godfather.”
So Colbert imagined what Depp would have said if he seemed more passionate about the bio-security laws designed to protect Australians—or a “proud island of exiled British degenerates,” as he called them.
