On their first tour since visiting New York in 2014, the royal parents will celebrate the entertainment world in Mumbai, the palace revealed in a briefing on Tuesday.
The glam night out on April 10 follows a day in which they will have seen the extremes of life in Mumbai: from the game of cricket and its role in young people’s lives to the poorest parts of the city.
The following day they head to New Delhi to tour the home of famed Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi—including seeing the spot where he was assassinated on January 30, 1948.
At the end of their second day there will be another celebration, this time a more traditional royal event: a garden party to mark Queen Elizabeth‘s upcoming 90th birthday. William is to “use the occasion to personally pay tribute to his grandmother with a speech to the invited guests,” his spokesman said at the Buckingham Palace briefing.
The tour will then take the couple to remote Kaziranga National Park to see the latest conservation efforts there. They will also check in with Elephant Family, a charity backed by the family of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
When Will and Kate head to Bhutan for two days, they will visit that country’s king and queen and likely see the royal couple’s newborn son. Their spokesman added, “Their Royal Highnesses are honored to have the opportunity to build a personal relationship with Their Majesties The King and Queen, who being of the same generation they look forward to knowing for many years to come.”
The couple “will be starting a personal relationship with a country that will play a major global role throughout Their Royal Highnesses’ lives,” a spokesman said at the briefing.
The couple, who fly in and out of India on scheduled flights, are initially staying at the Taj Palace Hotel. “The Taj was one of the scenes of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in November 2008 and is now an iconic symbol of the city’s resilience and strength. The stories of the bravery and dedication of the staff there are now known around the world.”
