Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that robots and computers will take “much of the work currently done by humans” within the next 50 years, according to new research.
The report, published by Pew Research, suggests that 15% and 50% of Americans, respectively, expect automation will “definitely” and “probably happen.” Still, researchers found that 80% do not expect automation to supplant their own jobs and only 11% are actively concerned for their own livelihood. Respondents with higher income and education levels tended to be less likely to think that robots will take over human jobs.
Pew researchers surveyed 2,000 adults for the report, and the results have a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
