Making a Murderer‘s Steven Avery Breaks Silence With Letter To Supporters

Steven Avery is prepared to do anything he can to clear his name.

The subject of the hit Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer recently sent a letter to his supporters via his new lawyer Kathleen Zellner.

“SA thrilled about chance of new forensic testing–like innocent men always are,” Zellner tweeted late Friday alongside a picture of a handwritten letter from Avery.

“To My Supporter’s: I want Every Forensic Test Possible Done B/c I am Innocent,” Avery’s neat cursive reads.

The popular docu-series has cast doubt on Avery’s conviction for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach and has prompted fans to call for the reopening of the case in an effort to exonerate Avery.

Avery’s longtime companion Sandy Greenman recently told PEOPLE that Avery is in a “really good place” ever since the docuseries cast doubt on his imprisonment.

“It’s not just [that he’s got a new] lawyer, it’s the people. It makes him smile,” Greenman said. “It’s a firestorm. I didn’t expect it to be this big. We have messages from all over, different countries, different states. It’s nice to know that people support us.”

She added, “It just seems like it gives more hope to Steve.”

Despite his renewed fame following the Netflix series, the creators recently revealed that Avery has not been allowed to watch the show in prison. However, they did say they had been in touch with him with an eye to use their new interviews for potential future episodes.
