Sierra Leone Records Another Ebola Case, Days After Africa Was Declared Ebola-Free

Sierra Leone confirmed its second case of Ebola within the past week on Thursday, prompting fears of a resurgence of the deadly virus just days after the World Health Organization officially declared an end to a two-year epidemic in West Africa that killed more than 11,000 people.

Sidi Yahyah Tunis, a spokesman for the country’s Health Ministry, told Reuters that the patient was a 38-year-old woman who helped care for the week’s first Ebola victim Mariatu Jalloh.

Jalloh died last week mere hours after the WHO declaration, with the disease confirmed as the cause of death posthumously.
