Powerball Jackpot Surges to Record $1.4 Billion

The world’s largest jackpot in history surged to $1.4 billion on Monday as millions of Americans keep trying their luck at the winning the massive prize.

The record-breaking Powerball jackpot climbed after strong ticket sales Sunday, officials said. It’s now a world-record jackpot, according to Kelly Cripe, spokeswoman for the Texas Lottery Commission. The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday. The pot started at $40 million on Nov. 7, 2015 and grew after nineteen drawings went by without yielding a jackpot winner.

Despite the increased ticket frenzy, the odds of taking home the jackpot are still one in 292.2 million. There’s a higher chance you die of chronic constipation, statistician Amram Shapiro told TIME. “That’s the scale of all of this. It’s fascinating,” he said. “They’re buying a dream.”
