Lithuanian Climbers Killed in Avalanche on French Alps

1 minute read

Two Lithuanian climbers were killed in a Sunday avalanche on Mont Blanc in the French Alps, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said in a statement.

Cazeneuve said there is an ongoing increased risk of avalanches, and urged people to exercise “the greatest caution,” the AP reports. The likelihood of avalanches has increased due to fresh snow.

The climbers were the first two deaths in the area this season, the Chamonix region rescue service said. A third Lithuanian climber survived the avalanche, which began at an altitude of more than 10,000 feet.
