One [_Harry Potter_](http://www.ew.com/harry-potter) fan got an incredible gift from her boyfriend over the holidays: a handmade replica of Harry’s Nimbus 2000 broomstick. Jared Weissman said he spent three weeks before Christmas crafting the broom for his girlfriend, Shelby Stein. “I used a 2x4x8 piece of pine for the handle and cut it out with a jigsaw and sanded it to shape with a block plane,” he [wrote in an email to _Mashable_](http://mashable.com/2015/12/30/boyfriend-nimbus-2000/#im2pYT74UZqy). “The bristles were shaped out of basket reed, reinforced underneath with Styrofoam circles to create the shape, and spray-painted a dark brown.” He then added the Nimbus 2000 logo to the handle and made a kickstand of out plastic rod and spray painted it gold. > [](https://twitter.com/mashable/status/682418919299223552) And the way Weissman gave Stein the finished product was magical, too. “I gave her the gift just after we had finished opening presents with our families. I wrapped it in brown paper and twine just like it was in the movie when Harry receives \[it\] in the Great Hall from his owl,” he explained. “Unfortunately, she could tell exactly what it was when she saw it (it’s kind of hard to hide the shape of a broom when it’s tightly wrapped). With just 10 words Friday, JK Rowling more or less confirmed the Harry Potter fan theory that's been online for a while. The fan theory is complicated, as fan theories are. But, basically hinges on Albass Dumbledore representing death, from a wizardry world myth. The Tale of the Three Brothers. Rowling's tweet is just another example of the author doing whatever she can to keep the [ Potter Phantom ] alive and all of us wanting more. And, that's not surprising because she's always said the story continues in her head. I couldn't stop. I don't think you can when you've been involved with the characters for that long. It's still all in there. They're all in my head still. And now what's constantly going from her head to some social site. On twitter she's apologized for, spoiler alert, killing Fred Weasley, revealed the full name of Moaning Myrtle, and announced her love for one house of Hogwarts above all others. But the best example is Potter world social site, Pottermore. It's the same story. With a few crucial additions. The most important one is you. In addition to allowing kids and some fully grown adults learn spells and sort themselves into a house, Pottermore is also a channel for rolling to continually give fans updates On how the whole gang is doing. From the history of the Malfoy family or updates on our favorite trio. Through the site, Rowling continues to update and evolve the world of Harry Potter. Probably the most controversial announcement was Rowling letting everyone in on something she kept out of the books. Professor Dumbledore being gay. And as time went on and I got to know Dumbledore, but this is before the publication of Philosopher's Stone. So bear in mind at this point, I've been with him for seven years, I knew he was gay. I just knew he was gay. Okay. And to me it was not a big deal. Through social media, Rowling has allowed fans to keep a finger on the pulse of Harry Potter's world, which is very much alive.
