The Lost Boys Star Brooke McCarter Dies at 52

Brooke McCarter, best known for playing Paul in The Lost Boys, has died after suffering from a long-term illness.

The 52-year-old actor “died from liver failure at his Tampa, Florida home, after having been hospitalized earlier this year, discovered to have a rare genetic liver disorder, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AAT),” a rep for McCarter tells PEOPLE.

“He passed this morning, surrounded by close family and friends, including his daughter Kaitlin McCarter, age 12,” the statement continues. “He will be remembered as a talented actor and musician. He was beloved son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend.

“His family appreciates the thoughts and prayers from family, friends and fans during this very sad and difficult time. Funeral arrangements are still being finalized. Anyone interested in making a donation for further research into the liver disorder he had, please visit alphnet.org.”

In addition to starring in the 1987 vampire hit alongside Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman and Jason Patric, McCarter made an appearance in the cult classic skateboard movie Thrashin’ alongside Tony Hawk and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

McCarter dropped out of show business in 1998 and moved to Florida to pursue a career in telecommunications, according his website and a 2010 interview with Horror.com. He returned to horror in 2009 with a role in The Uh-oh Show.
