Lauren Wasser is back in the modeling game.
The model recently shared photos on Instagram from her first big campaign since losing her right leg – and nearly her life – in 2012 to toxic shock syndrome allegedly caused by a tampon.
Wasser, 27 – who also suffered damage to her left toes and heel as a result of gangrene – is pictured in Nordstrom’s holiday catalog in athletic wear and sneakers with her prosthetic leg on full display.
“Super stoked to see this out!” she wrote on Instagram. “Huge moment for me and [photographer girlfriend Jennifer Rovero].”
The California native said she became emotional while shooting the photos because she was “in disbelief to have even been chosen for the @nordstrom Holiday catalog.”
She told PEOPLE she is grateful to the brand for “giving me the opportunity to share a different side of beauty as well as create change within the fashion industry by going against the norm.”
Wasser – who also recently recreated Kylie Jenner‘s controversial Interview magazine photoshoot – shared a close-up photo of herself modeling the footwear.
“The [trophy] leg killing it,” she wrote.
Since coming forward about her struggles with TSS, the 5’11” beauty – who is signed with modeling agencies Supreme in New York and Vision in Los Angeles – aims to spread awareness about the syndrome and act as a role model for others with disabilities.
“I hope to continue to open more doors,” she said, “and inspire more people, especially other amputees, to know that they are beautiful, too.”
