Donald Trump has a solution to Sunday’s major Miss Universe mix-up: Crown them both.
The Republican presidential front-runner weighed in on pageant host Steve Harvey’s epic blunder on Monday, telling NBC’s “Today” show that he would name both Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez and Philippines’ Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as winners.
“I’ll tell you what I think I’d do. I think I’d make ’em a co-winner. It would be very cool,” Trump said. “What happened to the girl from Colombia is devastating, to give it to her for a couple of minutes and then take it away. I would recommend that they go have a beautiful ceremony, which is good for the brand and good for Miss Universe, and do a co-winner.”
Harvey mistakenly announced the wrong winner in front of millions of viewers. He called it a “horrible mistake” and apologized.
Trump sold his stake in the Miss Universe pageant earlier this year. The big-time blunder wouldn’t have happened if he was still at the helm, he said.
“Very sad what happened last night at the Miss Universe Pageant,” the real estate magnate wrote on Twitter. “I sold it 6 months ago for a record price. This would never have happened!”
