Hailed as a “symbol of hope for the transgender community,” host Barbara Walters selected the 66-year-old reality star, who was not interviewed, for the [top honor ](http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/caitlyn-jenner-barbara-walters-fascinating-person-2015/story?id=35828100 "undefined")on the list of her annual [10 Most Fascinating People](http://www.people.com/people/gallery/0,,20970996%5F30423127,00.html#30423123 "undefined") special. “Our choice for the most fascinating person of the year was once called the world’s greatest athlete,” Walters, 86, started. “Traditionally that title was given to the man who won the Olympic decathalon. When Bruce Jenner won it in 1976, it was a huge accomplishment that had everybody talking. But it was nothing like this. Then in June, the woman formerly known as Bruce Jenner made her debut on the June cover of Vanity Fair.
