Coldplay’s New Album Will Sample Obama Singing ‘Amazing Grace’

1 minute read

Coldplay’s latest album will have a special guest — a very special one: President Barack Obama.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin told The Sun that the album, A Head Full of Dreams, will “have a tiny clip of the President singing ‘Amazing Grace’ at that church.” He’s referring to when Obama spoke at the funeral of Reverend Clementa Pinckney — a South Carolina pastor and state senator who was murdered at Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in June — and ended his eulogy by singing the hymn.

Martin said they’re including a snippet “because of the historical significance of what he did and also that that song being about, ‘I’m lost but now I’m found.’” Hear the track when A Head Full of Dreams comes out Dec. 4, and watch Obama’s rendition of “Amazing Grace” below.
