It’s practically a rite of passage for every major pop star to write a song about being a parent. Britney did, Beyoncé did it, and now Adele is joining the club.
The “Hello” singer shared details about the song “Sweetest Devotion,” a track off her highly anticipated new album 25, which comes out Friday. “The song is all about my kid,” Adele told USA Today. “The way I’ve described it is that something much bigger has happened in my life. I love that my life is now about someone else.”
The now-27-year-old singer welcomed son Angelo with boyfriend Simon Konecki in 2012 and has been vigilant about keeping him out of the public eye. (Though, like Beyoncé’s “Blue,” he even makes an appearance on the track.) “That’s the main reason I’ve grown up,” she says of her raising him.
“My whole life, even this comeback—because that’s what it is—is built around my kid,” Adele says. “One of the scariest things about my new album is that, for the first time in my life, I’m looking into the future, into the next 20 years. Before it was all about what you’d do on Friday, plans for the weekend.”
