Aziz Ansari dropped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday to discuss his new Netflix series, Master of None. The show explores issues of diversity on television (or the the lack thereof) — and the topic came up during Ansari’s Late Show appearance as well.
“Stephen’s the first late night host from South Carolina,” Ansari, also a native South Carolinian, says. “And the bajillionth white guy.”
Colbert then asks Ansari if having him as a guest on his show “counts” toward diversity. Ansari says yes, and then adds, “This is like an all-time high for CBS.” (Colbert does not have a comeback to this.)
Ansari’s father, who happens to play his on-screen father on Master of None, dropped by the show later. Earlier in the day, Ansari tweeted, “My dad and I may have made TV history – there will be more Indian people than white people on CBS when we guest on Colbert tonight.”
