Jimmy Kimmel knew Misty Copeland would be intimidated by his natural ballet talent, but he decided to let her try to teach him a few things anyway. Monday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! kicked off a week of Brooklyn hometown shows for the host, and featured Kimmel and Guillermo meeting up with Copeland at a Manhattan studio for a much-needed dance lesson. The American Ballet Theatre’s principal dancer whipped the two novices into shape, making them practice moves such as a plié and a grand battement.
“Misty was nice but she was a little bit tough on us because, you know, ballet is a very competitive world, and you just get somebody like me who shows up and is immediately good at it and it had to bother her,” Kimmel commented. “I mean, she has worked at this her whole life, and I just stroll in and master it.”
But while Copeland did compliment Kimmel on his shapely, yet hairy, legs, she had a different take on his dancing.
“Ballet was born in Italy more than 600 years ago and today it died,” she said.
