War has begun.
Matt Reeves announced the beginning of filming on War for the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, by releasing the first photo from the set.
“#It has begun,” Reeves wrote on Twitter next to a photo of a scene of a lonely beach. Though it’s difficult to make out, an actor wearing a motion-capture suit to portray one of the apes is seen gesturing to someone on horseback.
Andy Serkis returns to portray the evolved ape Caesar in War, the third installment of these prequel films. Steve Zahn (Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur), relative newcomer Amiah Miller, and Woody Harrelson were recently revealed for roles in the film. Plot details are being kept secret, though Dawn finished with Caesar facing a new horizon after his people clashed with the surviving human population.
War for the Planet of the Apes will hit theaters on July 14, 2017.
