Gary Gray. The _Straight Outta Compton_ filmmaker announced via his Facebook page that he will direct _Furious 8._ The news comes just days after star Vin Diesel shared [a photo of himself and Gray](http://www.ew.com/article/2015/10/06/furious-8-vin-diesel-f-gary-gray "undefined") together alongside pictures from the _Fast & Furious_franchise. On Monday, trade reports circulated that Gray was one of the favorites for the gig; EW pegged him as the [most likely choice of all the rumored names](http://www.ew.com/article/2015/10/05/furious-8-directors-roundup "undefined"). Gray inherits a monstrous franchise and one of Universal’s key series._Furious 7_ broke records after its release in April, [making more money than even _Frozen_](http://www.ew.com/article/2015/04/26/box-office-report-furious-7-age-adaline "undefined"); overall, it sits as the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. Though [Universal’s astounding 2015 box office success](http://www.ew.com/article/2015/08/15/universal-box-office-record "undefined") was spearheaded by _Furious 7_ and _Jurassic World_, Gray’s _Straight Outta Compton_ was a sleeper hit that netted the studio an additional $196 million worldwide.
