Hillary Clinton is taking on the pharmaceutical industry in a new ad airing in Iowa and New Hampshire, where she highlights her role in publicizing the dramatic increase in the drug Daraprim and her drug industry reform proposal.
The advertisement, which is going live a week after the New York Times reported the price of a pill skyrocketed from $13.50 to $750 when a hedge fund manager bought the producer, shows Clinton calling for a plan to “crack down” on drug company abuses.
“It is time to deal with skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs,” the advertisement shows Clinton saying at a September 21 campaign event.
The ad also features a Fox News commentator saying the former hedge fund manager, Martin Shkreli “may be lowering” the price “after Hillary Clinton blasted him out of the water.” The 30-second ad is part of the campaigns ongoing buy in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Clinton has made reducing out-of-pocket drug costs and curbing pharmaceutical industry abuses a major part of her campaign this month.
