A Burbank man was arrested for allegedly punching a fellow Costco shopper after a dispute over free Nutella waffle samples, according to police.
Authorities say that the victim was reaching for a piece of Nutella waffle at the same time that Derrick Gharabighi, 24, was taking multiple samples from the same table. The 78-year-old man reportedly scolded Gharabighi for taking too many, so the 24-year-old hit him in the face. The older man was hospitalized with a “significant laceration above his left eye and swelling around the same area of his face,” according to a Fox 11 report.
Gharabighi is being held on $50,000 bail, police say. He was charged Tuesday with felony elder abuse and personal infliction of great bodily injury on someone more than 70 years old, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
