Steve Rannazzisi Special Will Air Despite 9/11 Lies

Steve Rannazzisi may have lost those Buffalo Wild Wings ads, but his Comedy Central special is a Go.

The cable channel confirmed Saturday that the beleaguered League star’s stand-up special will air tonight as originally planned.

Earlier this week Rannazzisi admitted lying for years about his whereabouts during the 9/11 terror attacks, claiming he narrowly escaped the World Trade Center and worked as an account manager at Merrill Lynch. After news of the Rannazzisi’s admission broke, Comedy Central issued this statement: “We just learned about this last night. We are very disappointed to hear about Steve’s misrepresentations and are currently determining how we will move forward.”

This morning a Comedy Central rep confirmed the one-hour special, titled Steve Rannazzisi: Breaking Dad, will still air at 8 p.m. Rannazzisi also had a 2013 special on Comedy Central called Steve Rannazzisi: Manchild.

Previously, FX, which airs The League, issued a statement of their own, similarly condemning Rannazzisi’s behavior while saying his show will continue airing its final season as planned: “We are disappointed to learn that Steve Rannazzisi lied about being in the World Trade Center on 9/11. It is upsetting that he would fabricate a story about having survived that horrible tragedy. It is also unfortunate that he did not admit to the truth sooner. That said we believe Steve is sincere in his apology and will do everything he can to make amends moving forward.”

Restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings, however, dropped an ad campaign starring the comedian.
