Here’s a First Look at Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfieffer in HBO’s Bernie Madoff Movie

Six years after Bernie Madoff was sentenced to prison, a film based on his massive fraud is in the works.

HBO Films’ The Wizard of Lies stars Robert De Niro as Madoff and Michelle Pfieffer as his wife Ruth. The film is currently in production in New York.

Directed by Barry Levinson, The Wizard of Lies goes behind the scenes of Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, at the damage done to the victims and Madoff’s family. The movie is based on a book of the same name by Diana Henriques, with Truth and Consequences by Laurie Sandell providing additional source material.

ABC is also producing a mini-series on the Madoffs, starring Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner. Here’s how ABC’s Madoffs compare to HBO’s version:
