Ronda Rousey Will Star in Road House Reboot

MGM’s long-rumored Road House reboot is finally moving forward — with MMA superstar Ronda Rousey set to take on Patrick Swayze’s lead role.

EW has confirmed that Rousey will star in the reboot of the 1989 classic, which starred Swayze as Dalton, the philosophical bouncer who alternates between beating up bad guys in small-town Missouri and spouting pearls of wisdom like, “Pain don’t hurt.”

Rousey also shared the news on Twitter, writing, “It is a great honor to play a part in celebrating the life of a man that inspired so many. I couldn’t be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze… I promise to work incessantly to make sure this project is a tribute his family and fans can be proud of.”

According to Variety, which first reported the news, Rousey reached out to Lisa Niemi, Swayze’s widow, for her blessing. MGM reps did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Although Rousey made her name in the world of MMA, she’s already appeared on the big screen in The Expendables 3, Furious 7, andEntourage. She’s also set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of her autobiography My Fight/Your Fight, the action-thriller Mile 22, and The Athena Project, which tells the story of an all-female counterterrorism team.
