Prince continued his 2015 resurgence Thursday morning with the release of another new single, “Stare.” It’s a cut that recalls the legend’s funkiest, most playful music and it features a not-so-subtle homage to his classic song “Kiss” at the 1:25 mark. The single’s release is also significant, because Prince put out “Stare” exclusively through Spotify—less than a month after pulling his catalog from every streaming service besides TIDAL.
“Stare” comes on the heels of “HARDROCKLOVER,” a song Prince dropped in early July that his band 3rdEyeGirl has said will be on his forthcoming, “super experimental” album. These recent tracks follow Prince’s busy spring, when he released “Baltimore” and performed a Rally 4 Peace concert in the city in solidarity with the April death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray.
