Federal officials are investigating the killing of four Marines by a Kuwaiti-born gunman Thursday as a domestic terrorism incident. Late Thursday, the FBI said they did not yet have any information tying the shooter to an overseas extremist group but were still investigating. President Obama called the killings “heartbreaking” in a statement from the Oval Office, as presidential candidates released statements expressing their condolences. The shooting is already reigniting political and policy debates over domestic threats from Islam.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush parried questions on an array of controversial issues during a visit to a San Francisco tech start-up Thursday, suggesting he was in favor of equal-pay laws and efforts in the states to ban discrimination against LGBT Americans. Taking an Uber to the event to highlight his commitment to the tech industry, Bush nevertheless failed to secure the endorsement of his driver, who didn’t even recognize him. Intra-party fighting in Colorado is jeopardizing the GOP’s chances of retaking the White House. Sen. John McCain has some harsh words for Donald Trump. And this weekend is going to be very busy in Iowa.
