Actor Jesse Eisenberg has sought to clarify remarks in which he compared Comic-Con to “some kind of genocide.” He told Associated Press that he was being hyperbolic.
Eisenberg, who was at Comic-Con to promote his role as Lex Luthor in the upcoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, initially made the comments during an interview on Monday, saying that the San Diego event was “terrifying” to him.
“Maybe on some cellular memory level, that’s the only thing that seems like an equivalent social experience,” Eisenberg said in an interview on Tuesday.
According to AP, he also said that the comment matches fans’ assumptions of villain Lex Luthor. “They expect me to use hyperbole!” he said.
“I of course was using hyperbole to describe the sensory overload I experienced. I sometimes do employ that,” Eisenberg explained to AP later on Tuesday. “I’m a normal person who has normal sensory experiences, so Comic-Con was very overwhelming for me. That said, it was really an honor to be on that end of such jubilation.”
