Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Vivica A. Fox have all been cast in the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster, though star Will Smith [will not return](http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Smith-Isn-t-Independence-Day-Resurgence-72184.html "undefined"). It is set to be released in 2016, nearly 20 years after the original broke box office records for the biggest opening of all time. (_The Lost World: Jurassic Park_ broke that record one year later, extra incentive for _Independence Day Resurgence_ to try to steal _Jurassic World_‘s [new box office milestone](http://time.com/3931194/jurassic-world-record/ "undefined").)
