Stewart announced his departure from the show in February, and Noah was announced as his successor at the end of March. The South African comedian had only made three previous appearances on the show, and [faced some backlash](http://time.com/3764913/trevor-noah-twitter-backlash/) after the announcement for some of his previous tweets that people found offensive.
