### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. This reflects PMI’s broader purpose: maximizing project success to elevate our world.

In an effort to record the year of his life leading up to the millennium, Jeff Harris began a project in which he used his trusty Olympic Stylus 35mm film camera (he’s since gone through six) to take a self-portrait each day and then posted the results on his website. The project, which began long before the widespread popularity of blogging, Facebook and Flickr, allowed viewers to follow one photographer along on his adventures. “I didn’t want 365 images of me sitting on the couch each day,” says Harris. “There could have been that tendency, especially during the cold dark winter months to stay inside all the time, but this project inspired me to get out there and seek out interesting things.” This year, Harris embarks on year fourteen of what has turned out to be an epic, inspired and ever-evolving art project that documents a life well lived.

The images range from completely solitary, auto-timed self-portraits to photographs inspired by a collaborative spirit with whomever Harris encounters on a given day. Regardless of the mood, location or activity at the center of any given image in the series, they all show a marvelously open and generous approach to both diaristically recording and sharing everything from intimate moments to athletic adventures with a wider audience. In fact, Harris evokes the full range of physical experiences a body can encounter: from mundane inactivity to joyful dives to his body being open on the operating table.

“I see no reason to not make a self-portrait each day,” the photographer says. “I’m always around and always free. It’s kind of like going to the gym—it flexes your muscles and keeps you in shape.”

## Transcript

My name is Jeff Harris and I'm a photographer from Toronto, Canada. I am doing a Self- Portrait Project everyday for the last 12 and half years. I'd always had these New Year's resolutions about keeping diaries, and my diaries tended to fizzle by February. But I realized I had the five minutes in a day it took to take a self portrait. I started in 1999 and a lot of the early shots were really very repetitive and boring. But the longer I did it, the stronger my visual sense became. I've just kept going to this day and it's one of those things, the longer you do it the harder it is to stop. [ MUSIC ] I started out when I was a high school teacher and then worked in the magazine industry.

But, I was very much a nine to five person and. The project itself was a challenge for me to get outside and not make it look like I had a cubicle job, but that I actually was running around and doing a different interesting thing each day. [ MUSIC ] I might have had, you know, one or two a month that were particularly nice to look at and those were the images that kept me going. For every 25 bad pictures you take, there will be five days of interesting images. I enlist the help of other people to take my picture. Not only enlist the help of friends and family, but I go up to celebrities and. And asked them to take my image.

I come across celebrities at film festivals, and after music concerts, and I only would take the time to pursue people I'm actually interested in. If I can emulate a bit of that celebrity and put that into the photograph, I feel like I've done an interesting job. And. Gene Simmons took my photo, so I stuck my tongue out. Billy Idol took my picture and I made a sneer like him, and then there's been a series of pictures Michael Moore has taken of me, and I blocked myself from the camera. All that they got is a little credit, no different than if my grandmother took the picture. I have a picture of me jumping on.

Off of speakers at a rock concert, that's my picture for one day, and the picture of me the next day is me in the hospital because I ended up fracturing my foot in the fall. So, I'm really obsessed with that notion of shock and change and, that. Even, jumping into a lake for me has that same nature of catching yourself. In mid- dive, and I have a lot of pictures of my diving into water. And this project has encouraged me to do what's known as the polar bear dip, which is jumping into frozen water. So there's many pictures of me jumping into lakes with snow and ice around, and I don't think I'd be doing that, if I didn't have this project.

I got diagnosed with Cancer in November of 2008. Taking pictures has been a therapeutic experience through that. You know, your life gets turned completely upside- down, and the only consistent thing that remained throughout that time is the fact that I was taking a picture everyday. I kinda had fun with it. And I was like, if my body's gonna go through this total nightmare, I might as well just make the most of it. And I brought my camera in with me to my radiation treatments with me. I've had three surgeries, and my doctors took pictures of the surgeries, and I've had my x- rays as part of the project.

[ MUSIC ] I had a tumour in my pelvis and, to get it out they had to sever my sciatic nerve and that has left me permanently paralleled in my left leg. So now I'm on crutches. [ MUSIC ] [ SOUND ] Since getting diagnosed with Cancer, I made an effort to not be a patient 24 hours a day. Canoeing down a river, my brother and I came across this tree that was suspended out, like six feet above the water, and I. Climbed up the tree and we took an image and it looks like an image that a fully physical person would take. It's really a challenge for me, knowing how I would be zipping around the city to make compelling images and then all of a sudden be trapped.

[ MUSIC ] With mobility issues and not be able to get around. It gives me something to strive for. If there's a fence I'm gonna climb it or if there's a river I'm gonna canoe down it. I'm still going. [ MUSIC ]
