Super Troopers 2 is officially a go thanks to the over $2 million in donations the film’s Indiegogo page has received just one day into its campaign.
The Broken Lizard comedy group launched the page on Tuesday in the hopes of raising the $2 million needed to produce a “barebones” sequel to their 2001 cult classic.
The film’s Indiegogo page stated that, “while the studio has given us permission to make the sequel, and agreed to distribute it (at least in the USA and Canada), we need to fund the movie ourselves.”
The team said if they raised at least $2 million in the next month, then filming on the sequel could begin this summer. But raising more would be better for what they have planned.
“We’ve got some big stuff in the script, and if we’re able to raise enough money, you’ll get to see all of it. The more we raise, the more amazing stuff we can put in the movie,” the page reads.
The film currently has $2,016,658 in funds raised, and the numbers are still climbing. The campaign still has 30 days to go and several of the perks are still up for grabs, including the chance to have the gang as the best men at your wedding for a $25,000 donation.
