Carney will leave his post at CNN, where he is a commentator, and begin with Amazon on Monday as senior vice president for Worldwide Corporate Affairs, _Politico_ reports. Carney will split his time between the D.C. office and the company’s Seattle headquarters, and he will report directly to Jeff Bezos. He’s not the only former Obama confidante to head to Silicon Valley. There's a [00:03] big change going on. The studio behind the series [00:06] Transparent snagged a few Golden Globes earlier this [00:09] month and that momentum seems to be helping [00:11] propel it into films. On Monday Amazon Studios [00:15] announced it will start producing and acquiring original [00:18] movies for both theatrical release and distribution on [00:22] Amazon Prime Instant Video. So it will start producing [00:26] and distributing movies this year. Variety reports Ted [00:29] Hope, the man behind the production company Good [00:32] Machine, which was behind movies like Crouching [00:34] Tiger, Hidden Dragon, well, he'll leave creative [00:38] development at Amazon original movies. Interestingly, [00:41] Amazon's big, original streaming content competitor, [00:44] Netflix, announced its first original movie in [00:47] September. And it's a sequel to Crouching Tiger, [00:50] Hidden Dragon. It comes out in August. And movies [00:53] Amazon released. Releases theatrically will come to [00:55] Prime faster than other subscription video services, [00:58] just 4- 8 weeks after they debut in theaters. Right [01:03] now writers can submit movie scripts right through [01:05] Amazon Studio's website. They can also submit series [01:09] ideas and Amazon is not getting out of original series [01:12] any time soon. Just last week, Amazon announced a. [01:15] Huge gets that Woody Allen will create his first ever [01:18] series for Amazon Studios. Bottom line, Amazon is [01:22] pouring money into programming right now.
