Zendaya Accepts Giuliana Rancic's Apology in Oscars Controversy

Zendaya has accepted Giuliana Rancic’s apology after the Fashion Police host made a racially offensive joke about her Oscars hairstyle.

“Giuliana, I appreciate your apology and I’m glad it was a learning experience for you and for the network,” the Disney Channel star wrote Wednesday on Instagram. “I hope others negatively affected by her words can also find it in their hearts to accept her apology as well.”

She went on to quote Martin Luther King Jr.: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”

Earlier, daytime talk show hosts took sides in the scandal Wednesday.

On The Talk Wednesday, Sharon Osbourne supported Rancic and made sure to let everyone know that her daughter, Fashion Police co-host Kelly Osbourne, was not involved in the dispute.

“I think her apology was very sincere, and as she said, she’s learned a lot about what she said,” Osbourne said on The Talk. “I think we all make mistakes on TV. I put my foot in my mouth so many times. She fessed up, and at the end of the day, she owned it.”

Stacy London, former co-host of What Not to Wear and current star of TLC’s Love, Lust or Run, was a guest host on The View and criticized Rancic.

“Only Joan Rivers can be Joan Rivers,” London said of the late comedian, who used to lead the E! show. “Giuliana is not Joan, sorry.”

Her cohosts agreed.

“Here’s what’s offensive to me,” Whoopi Goldberg said. “I’ve had dreads for 40 years and never have I smelled like patchouli. It’s a stereotype that she put on.”

She went on to say, “She’s not Joan Rivers, and unless you know how to make jokes, don’t do it, because this is what happens.”

Many other celebrities have taken to social media to share their feelings and support Zendaya.
