Live on Your Phone, It’s Saturday Night Live’s App

2 minute read

If you’re obsessed with both Saturday Night Live and your iPhone, get ready: SNL has a new app, and it’s everything you could hope for.

In celebration of the show’s 40th anniversary, NBC Entertainment launched the SNL App on Thursday. The comprehensive collection features nearly every SNL sketch from the past 40 seasons, which amounts to 5,500 in nearly 800 episodes. (That’s more than 300 hours worth of content.) If that’s not enough, the app also gives users access to never-before-released moments as well. The app will be frequently updated with new content, including the most recent sketches and older ones.

In addition to the videos, the app will provide rampant emoji users with a whole new keyboard of 60 Saturday Night Live-themed emojis. Yes, you can send a virtual penis in a box to your loved one.

Once you’ve used the app a few times, it gets a feel for your favorite types of sketches, personalizing your SNL experience. And if you don’t know what you’re in the mood for, you can use the “browse” option, which allows you to search for sketches by season, episode, cast member, or even by host.

EW got a first look at the app earlier this week, and we must admit, it’s pretty cool. The app’s creators told EW that even SNL’s producers are impressed with the extensive digital archive they’ve unveiled.

Current SNL featured player Kyle Mooney told EW that the cast and producers will be able to use the app for research when preparing new sketches, now that they’re all in one place.

And the best part? It’s completely free. iPhone owners can use the app now, and the Android release is coming soon.
